Why have we started to use Basecamp?

Basecamp
Although SCM has been trading for many years now, we have recently enjoyed a growth spurt. As demand for our services and products has increased, the number of team members has also grown to keep up with this increasing workload. Organising and keeping track of tasks and projects between teams has become increasingly difficult.

We started to use Basecamp a few months ago and it has provided a good solution to this problem and we are now using it as our main company communication tool. This has provided greater transparency within the company and clarity within our teams as to who is responsible for different tasks.
​

It provides messaging across the company, reducing internal emails to a minimum as well as a central place to hold information and documents that different teams need to work on.

The Six tools of Basecamp
As well as working in a web browser, apps are available for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android devices so our mobile users are always kept up to date with office news and new projects. It is also simple to start using and the occasional time we have required support the response has been fast.

So theres the answer, we feel we are all better connected and the whole team can see the big picture and can easily pitch ideas in for consideration. We all spend less time on internal emails to each other, less time in meetings and have more time for our customers; just wish I had thought of it first!

Live Chat now on our website

Live Chat

As the whole world seems so busy these days and we often just want a quick answer to a query or problem, we have now introduced Live Chat on our website to help our customers.

This is available on most website pages most of the time during normal working hours, and sometimes outside of these! If we are not available  you can still use it to send us a message, which will probably be quicker for you than typing another email. 

Next time you are visiting us and have a query try it out and one of the team will be pleased to help you.

May updates

Website now mobilised

You may have heard in the news this month that Google has made some changes which now favour websites that are fully compatable with smart phones and tablets. If you would like more information on this, please see their page here and if you would like any help with updating your own website Contact Us here.

We have now completed these changes which means our website will now be easier to use when you are on the go and viewing from your mobile device.  You can use the short form on the Contact Us page to send us a message to request a survey, quote, or visit and also make an online payment if you need to with any Card or by PayPal.  Why not read our FAQ to see some of the questions we are often asked.

Further planned developments include providing our contract customers with a web portal so they can login in and see their service records, job sheets  and schedule inspection dates as well as being able to log a job or fault. Jane (the other one that is!)

Jane Burfoot has been with us since 2011 and has recently changed her role at Southern Care. She has now moved from General Admin Assistant to specialising in the ordering and supply of parts for the Nursing Equipment Division. 

"Some of the parts we have to track down and purchase  for the Hoists and Beds come from European countries. However, being in the EU unfortunately doesn't always mean that we can rely on a fast delivery to us"

In this new role Jane deals with our engineers, suppliers and customers so she has quite a unique hands-on-role and is often referred to as "the fount of all knowledge"!

Spot the Difference!

Luke & Oliver
You may recently have seen a new face in our team and thought you were seeing double!

Oliver Adams is the new face and understandably often gets confused with his brother Luke.

Luke Adams joined in 2010 and stepped up the ladder to Senior Engineer, Alarms Division in August 2013.  Following in his footsteps his twin brother joined the team as Alarms Engineer in December 2014 - Oliver says " its great working with my brother and I am also enjoying working with a varity of different systems."

If you have not seen him yet, keep an eye out and see if you -  Spot the difference!
